Activities Performed:

 

ORGANIZATIONAL and FINANCIAL PLANNING:

  • Provided a procedure for effective crew scheduling. Defined standards and measures of performance. 
  • Provided a procedure to track  job progress.
  • Tutored owners in such business practices as debt and equity financing, strategic planning, succession planning

OPERATIONAL PLANNING

  • Reviewed and revised current job costing system, with the objective of giving the owners better visibility of all the direct material and labor costs, as well as the appropriate overhead factors, that should be included in a cost estimate.
  • Developed a comprehensive purchasing and inventory control system in QuickBooks that included purchase orders, order tracking, and returns. 
    An analysis of the current business process was developed and incorporated into two flowcharts. The first showed the current process and the second contained recommended changes.
  • A labor burden worksheet was developed, utilizing Microsoft Excel, that will provide an automated means of calculating "fully-loaded" labor burden costs for each employee. This worksheet will be incorporated into the job cost estimating worksheet.
  • A bid estimating computer program was created and implemented. 
  • Recommendations were developed for improving inventory control and procedures were undertaken to realign purchasing with the forecasted work. 
  • PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
    A dashboard measurement, monitoring and management system was implemented to provide visibility of the company’s performance against forecasted goals.   Some of the key performance indicators included: 
    · New orders.
    · Inventory turns.
    · Budget variance.
    · On-time project completion.
    · Return on investment.
    · Work-In-Progress status.
    · Production schedules.
    · Backlog for production.
