FINANCIAL CONTROLS

  • Developed an annual operating budget and a Budget Variance Report, defining procedures for corrective action. 
  • Revised job-costing procedures and systems used to estimate, bid and track job costs and expenses.  
  • Implemented a computerized Cash Flow tracking system and developed a forecasting tool.
  • Introduced breakeven analysis to those managers who were not already versant in this procedure.
  • Developed a key indicator Flash Report that provided weekly information on key performance indicators.
  • Trained management on the interpretation of an annual budget, flexible budget, and variance reports, and provided demonstrations of its applications.
  • Trained accounting staff on the collection of information used to develop a Six Week Cash Flow Report. 

 

ORGANIZATION

  • Reviewed and analyzed the day-to-day workings of Canada’s second-largest air/ground courier service, including, personnel utilization, organizational structure,  controls,  operations, and all relevant  areas for the efficient operation of the business.
  • Developed Positional and Functional Organization Charts structure to maximize service and efficiency at all levels of the organization.
  • Implemented a procedure to create Position Guides (job descriptions) for key personnel of the Company.  Created guides for managers/supervisors and taught the staff how to create them for other positions. 
  • Created an Employee Evaluation and Performance System that included performance measurements from job descriptions and observable actions from day to day activities.
  • Instituted a progressive discipline procedure that delineated the steps for employee discipline.
  • Developed a method that allowed managers to delegate authority and responsibility to others in the organization.
  • Created a succession plan for the business.
  • Outlined the means and methods for developing and monitoring the achievement of strategic objectives.
